On a cold but dark, clear night last night Curzon Ashton (“Nash”) broke their losing form to get a win away from home at Spennymoor (“Moors”). 1002 Supporters braved the cold which was a good gate and they got a good game to watch if not the result the majority were hoping for.
There was a lot riding on this game for both sides before the game with Spennymoor being fourth in the table beforehand and looking to catch those teams above and Curzon down in 16th. Curzon had not long lost their previous manager and form had been up and down since then. The exit from the
F A Cup on Saturday was also a very disappointing result for them and their fans, so it was imperative to get a result from this game.
It was a tight game with both sides having chances. The Moors started excellently and went one up incredibly early on with just 4 minutes on the clock. That could have resulted in Nash being downbeat given their recent form and lack of goals, however they rallied with spirit throughout the first half but unable to make the break and find that killer touch in the goal mouth. The Moors also could not find that finishing touch.
The second half was equally as tight and both teams again had chances, it was an exciting match to watch with end-to-end play. Mahon and Spencer were a dynamic duo in this game however it was a penalty which brought the equaliser from Will Hayhurst, an excellent penalty taker when needed most.
It was destined to finish a point a piece until injury time when Isaac Sinclair made an excellent run from the halfway line to score the late winner.
The Moors would feel hard done by in this game as they equally had plenty of chances and the result dropped them to fifth in the table remaining on 27 points. Curzon Ashton moved up to 11th with 22 points as the mid table sides are all remarkably close at the moment and a win gives you a good jump up. This will give Nash the incentive to get back to those winning ways and better form. Craig Mahon (Nash Player/Manager) said after the match “this was exactly the reaction we needed after Saturday and puts us in good stead for the upcoming games.”
Jordan Richards (Nash Player) was named Man of the Match and said, “It’s a result we deserved and fought for !” Jordan was a key player in the team last night and won the penalty when through on goal.
The referee had no contentious decisions to make and there were no cards within what was a well fought but clean game from both teams.
Spennymoor move on to an away game with Kings Lynn at the weekend (11th November) and Curzon play host to Bishop Stortford. These teams remain near the bottom of the league so both Moors and Nash will be hoping for good results.
